After a slight delay in Washington Dulles Airport, our flight was ready to board and depart for Frankfurt, Germany. During the initial boarding process, an announcement informed all passengers of a climate control problem on the aircraft. The plane was over 90 degrees so we would have to wait until the air conditioning kicked in to complete the boarding process. Ugh! Always something. The boarding area was uncomfortably small so it didn’t take long to meet your neighbors and discuss how United status doesn’t get you anything anymore. Haha! Forty-five minutes later, now almost midnight, we boarded the plane and took off–time for some sleep!
When you fly United to Europe, many times you will have to make a pit stop in Frankfurt, Germany. This is my second visit to Frankfurt Airport this year. Frankfurt offers many different lounges located by helpful directional signs and maps throughout the terminal. Individual and companion access depends on your level of status. It’s a good idea to do a little research to pick the best possible lounge for your convenience and status level. At the time, we had Silver Status and United Club Card membership which allows a traveler access to basically nothing a standard Business Lounge—not Senator or FirstClass.
With only a little over an hour of lounge time to spare before our flight to Istanbul, we hit up one of the Business Lounges near the gate. The lounge is quiet and spacious with hardwood floors. Modern sitting “living room” style areas with many electrical outlets to power up makes for a comfortable stay. To the left is a long buffet bar with a decent selection self-serve food and beverages. I enjoyed a cup of lentil soup, soft pretzel, and a small salad. Usually, I’ll grab a local beer or glass of wine, but this visit I chose some delicious coffee and cold mineral water. A lovely attendant kept the bar clean and replenished as well as promptly clearing tables.
Other lounge amenities include:
• Non smoking lounge and separate smoking area rooms
• Restrooms
• Showers
• Relaxing room
• Office units
• Copy machine
• Fax machine
• Miles & More printer
• PC with internet access
• Wireless network
• TV
• Local magazines and newspapers
• International magazines and newspapers
• German magazines and newspapers
In typical fashion, I completed a stretching routine including some yoga moves, lunges, squats, and push-ups. After flying, I need to get my blood flowing and stretch out as many muscles as possible. I always feel so much better afterwards!
On the way to catch the next flight, I grabbed some gummy bears and extra bottled water. German gummy bears are the best!
Currently, I hold a Premier Platinum status so I will have access to the Senator Lounge. See you next time Frankfurt Lufthansa Lounge! Next stop, Istanbul, Turkey!
On board, we ordered one of each item. The food was flavorful and met expectations. We just left the lounge so we didn’t eat very much on the plane.
The flight attendant welcomed us with a customary Turkish treat called, “Turkish Delight” or “Lokum.” These delicious little gel confections are made with dates, pistachios, and hazelnuts bound together.
