After a 10-hour, grueling car ride on miserably bumpy roads from the Ajanta and Ellora Caves in Aurangabad, we returned to Mumbai and checked into the Courtyard Marriott Mumbai Airport. Although bad roads made our voyage difficult, the Ajanta and Ellora Caves were unbelievably awe-striking UNESCO world heritage sites. It was undoubtedly a highlight of our trip! (Our post about the caves is coming soon!)
The advantage of staying near the airport was that we were able to minimize our time in Mumbai traffic the next morning before our flight. However, the hotel was over an hour from Mumbai’s main tourist attractions and the downtown areas, so we wouldn’t recommend it for extended stays. There was nonstop, gridlock traffic in Mumbai, often doubling the time Google Maps estimated. We used Uber in Mumbai. It was easy and inexpensive. While there had been a few reports of both of taxi and Uber horror stories, we never had an issue.
When we first arrived and got a glimpse of the beautiful entrance, we realized that this property was nothing like a Courtyard in the U.S.! It more closely resembled an upscale “Marriott” brand, catering to business clientele. In the U.S. the Courtyard properties do not provide breakfast; here the breakfast was included in our rate and offered an amazing buffet spread!
The lobby was massive, with tall ceilings, modern decor, and open spaces. Right away, we could tell this was a very popular hotel. The lobby was busy, but never seemed overly crowded. The hotel was decked out with tasteful Christmas decorations, like the ginormous “cookie Christmas tree.” It looked delicious! As soon as I saw the tree, I immediately craved a glass of milk!
Check in was fast and easy with friendly and accommodating staff. The front desk acknowledged our Platinum Elite status and upgraded our room to a fabulous suite.
Our room felt more like a spectacular city apartment (except without a kitchen). This spacious and modern apartment was well-equipped with a very comfortable bed, two flat screen televisions, huge shower and tub, and large walk-in closet. Bonus points for the two separate bathrooms and formal dining room area!
We arrived late in the evening and had food on our minds, so we ordered room service to enjoy in our amazing suite. We don’t usually order room service, but we were exhausted wanting to chill in our sweatpants/yoga pants, watch a little television, and catch up on emails. Unfortunately, we were craving “Western/Continental” food and we wanted a short Indian food break. PPP TIP: Order the local food and cuisine! The American/Continental dinner plates were seriously underwhelming.
After a great sleep, we made our way to the main restaurant for breakfast. Again, was is not a typical Courtyard as this property included a huge gourmet breakfast buffet included in the rate. The service and overall quality of the breakfast buffet exceeded our expectations. As soon as we arrived, a manager welcomed us with smile and placed our coffee and juice orders.
The buffet was extensive and delicious. As we walked around, we noticed that many of the stations were taking orders for fresh made items. The manager found us and explained that pancakes, french toast, omelets, made to order eggs, and many of our favorite traditional India breakfast dishes would be brought directly to our table, fresh and hot.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have a chance to check out the property in its entirety because we needed to eat, sleep, and head to the airport to catch our flight to Goa. The hotel’s website highlights their executive lounge, pool, spa, fitness, business and meeting rooms, and much more. Without a doubt, this Courtyard is a full-service hotel.
In order to save some Rupees, we requested a local taxi. This little car was the cutest thing ever. It was so small! Our driver secured our luggage to the rooftop with some rope. I don’t know why, but it totally cracked me up! Ahhh… the “little” things in life! Luckily, it was a short drive.
Off to the airport to catch our flight to Goa!
