For me, finding a fantastic restaurant on the waterfront in a beach town is not always an easy task. A lot of beach towns cater towards tourists so the quality of the food and service is disappointing. It is understandable how the location outweighs the price and quality of everything else. Well, folks, this is not the case for Benny’s On The Beach. Not only is the location beautiful, the food is absolutely delicious–and plentiful!
I heard a rumor that Benny’s On The Beach is one of the few “real” oceanfront restaurants in the Boca Raton region of South Florida. More importantly, it has outstanding reviews for its menu and food quality. I needed to check it out! Therefore, on a recent trip to South Florida, we decided to have lunch at Benny’s On The Beach. It is in the heart of Lake Worth Beach and the restaurant itself is connected directly to the fishing pier.
The parking isn’t ideal because it is metered public beach parking. Luckily, there were many spots available so we parked close to the restaurant.
On a sunny and warm day, Benny’s On The Beach has a casual and laid back feel to it. There is a bar area in front with live music. After passing by the bar, you are in the restaurant portion of the pier. We decided to sit outside at a table with umbrella–to shield the Florida sun. With the crashing waves and faint seagull sounds in the background, you are in vacation/beach heaven.
After discussing the menu with our server, we decided to order the signature dishes of Benny’s On The Beach–Fish and Chips as well as Baja Fish Tacos. Our server was super friendly and attentive. Also, she was enthusiastic about the menu and gave an honest opinion about the options. Of course, I spotted the Sweet Potato Fries and I can never resist the sweet and salty goodness of sweet potatoes. I was in love with these Sweet Potato Fries because they were crunchy, hot, not too salty, and lightly fried–lots of potato! Yum!
Both of the main courses exceeded expectations. Fish Tacos were made with all fresh ingredients and the fish itself was cooked to perfection. Sometimes, fish can be overcooked and dry. This was not the case at all–very light, fluffy, and full of flavor.
My first thought about the Fish and Chips was the overwhelming large portion size. This meal could feed four grown adults. The fish was so fresh and hearty–more fish than fried. We both really enjoyed it, but we could not finish the whole thing due to its massive size and our inevitable food coma.
